Here's some travel books I've read -- old list deleted due to secret intelligence directive -- Ratings out of 5.
aa) The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles ~~ 4.6 Stars
.. ,,,,,at his best one of the best, the movie is
worth a look too.
bb) On the Road by Jack Kerouac ~~ 4.9 stars.. you
gotta say this guy had guts. Bigger than travel
itself. The deceased poet genius whose reputation
has outlived the tall poppy syndrome. He is
"The Incurable Nomadic Syndrome".
cc) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
by Hunter S. Thompson ~~ 4.8 stars..
does this book provoke substance abuse?
I've read it 3 times and I'm still twitching.
The Colossus of Maroussi
by Henry Miller ~~ 4.5 stars..
An American in love with Greeks & Greece. Miller get's metaphysical about a Greece that apparently doesn't exist anymore. I love this sort of shit. In Greece he finds his equanimity, "Peace of the soul" and advises that all materialistics should be thrown into the sea.
g) Che Guevara ...Motorcycle Diaries
Some cool photos in the hardback and a few
compelling literary bursts. A must for Guevara
disciples.~~ 3.7 stars.
a) Odd Man Out ...Ronnie Biggs ~ 4.3 stars
A travel book? Quite a journey, nonetheless.
A true bon vivant. <30 years on the run>.
Music, literature and breaking the law. A mighty
fine yarn. Keep going Ronnie, your a true legend.
